Psalm 65 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

Psalm 65:1,2

What mighty praise, O God, belongs to you in Zion. We will fulfill our vows to you, for you answer our prayers. All of us must come to you.

Some thoughts on prayer:

There is no doubt about it; our God answers prayers, but are we praying? Can God answer our prayer before we pray it? Yes, of course, He can, but we are called to be a praying people, a people who bring their hearts and their requests to His feet. If we aren’t bringing them to Him, then can we expect Him to answer them? Far too often, we can sit in our mess wondering where God is and why He isn’t moving on our behalf, and all the while, He is waiting for us to humble ourselves and bring it to Him in prayer.

When we pray, we are not only humbling ourselves before our God but exalting Him simultaneously. We are saying, “I can’t, Lord, but I know you can!” So it takes humility to develop a prayer life. It also takes discipline to persevere in prayer each day. Life is distracting, the enemy is distracting, and everything around us is clamoring for our attention, but we must choose each day to give our attention and time to the Lord in prayer. Jesus did, and we must follow Him in all things!

Prayer can also be hard because unrepentant sin can block or hinder your prayer life. We must be sure that we are repenting daily and entering His Presence with the peace of Christ that comes when He cleanses us from our sins. Often times in prayer, my sins are exposed to me, and I have a choice; I can end the prayer and get on with my day, or I can end the sin and humble myself, getting on my spiritual (and sometimes physical) face before my God in repentance.

Prayer is crucial and necessary in our walk with the Lord. Are we doing it daily? Let us not view prayer as a mundane and boring task to complete but as a joyous occasion to meet with our God and be a little closer to Him!

Philippians 4:4-7- Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

God bless! I love you all, but His love opened a direct line of communication. Will we use it? Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
