Mark 13 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

Mark 13:21-23

“At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘Look, there he is!’ do not believe it. For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. So be on your guard; I have told you everything ahead of time.”

Jesus warns us that in the last days, there will be many trials, tribulations, and temptations that we must face. He tells us ahead of time, so we won’t be surprised or caught off guard, but are we listening? The truth is no one knows the day or the hour of Christ’s return except the Father. We could study the Scriptures for a 1,000 lifetimes and still couldn’t nail it down precisely, but we can see the signs of the times and be prepared.

As I look around at the world we live in today, I can’t help but see some of the truths portrayed in the Scriptures being played out right before our eyes. Regardless, if these are the End Times or not, we are closer today than ever before to the return of Christ, and as His return draws near, the attacks and deceptions will ramp up. Jesus warns us plainly in the Scriptures that many will come and try to deceive us and lead us astray. The whole point of these false prophets and false messiahs is to lead God’s people away from Him; they are here to destroy and deceive the Church more than the world. The world doesn’t need any help being led away from God; it’s doing it on its own each day.

One of the ways we can avoid this deception is by being submerged in the Word of God. We must be bathing in it daily, saturated by it and sustained through it. We must be filled with the truth to combat the very clever lies of the enemy. We are not smart enough on our own to see through his lies, but our God is more than able to! So we must be surrendered to Christ, filled with the Holy Spirit, and partaking daily in the Word of truth! The Word is a lamp to our feet, it is what we hide in our hearts to keep us from sinning against God, and it’s alive and active! We must cling to both the Living Word and written Word to avoid the deceivers that are sure to come and, in fact, are even here.

Ecclesiastes 1:9- What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.

1 John 4:2,3- This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.

God bless! I love you all, but His love warns and prepares us for the journey ahead! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
