Mark 16 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

Mark 16:6,7

“Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid Him. But go, tell His disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see Him, just as He told you.’”

Peter has worth to Christ, and so do we! Peter’s worth to Christ wasn’t based on his actions, his accomplishments, or even his faith but is based on Christ and who He is! Our worth, too, must be in Christ and not of this world or the things of the flesh.

Too often, we put our value on who we are or what we have done, and the truth is that our value isn’t in us but in the One who paid for us! Peter had denied Christ three times before the crucifixion of Jesus occurred and had left there broken and alone. He had no worth in his own eyes, having denied his Savior and abandoned Him in His time of need. Yet what does God send this angel to say? “Go tell His disciples and Peter!” Peter, the denier, is specially included! This is our God saying to Peter, “You still have value in My eyes!”

What an awesome God we serve, rich in mercy, full of unfailing love, and infinitely more forgiving and patient than we ever could be. We must stop letting those things around us define who we are, for it is not the things around us that define us but rather the One living in us.

It’s easy for us to base our value on what we have or haven’t done. While it’s important to live our lives to the glory of God and in reverent obedience and faith, our value is still not in that. For Christ said we had value before we ever belonged to Him; He said this through His actions that day on the cross. For Christ did not come to save the righteous but the sinners. He did not come to rescue those who thought they didn’t need to be rescued but rather those who knew they were desperately lost.

So today, who or what defines you and gives you value? Your job, your spouse, your home, your bank account… or the God of all creation who willingly let sinful men nail Him to a cross for you and me? He is alive, praise His name! Christ says we each have worth to Him!

Luke 19:10- “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

Ezekiel 34:12- “As a shepherd looks after his scattered flock when he is with them, so will I look after my sheep. I will rescue them from all the places where they were scattered on a day of clouds and darkness.”

God bless! I love you all, but His love shows us our value to Him! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
