Isaiah 31 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

Isaiah 31:4,5

This is what the LORD says to me: “As a lion growls, a great lion over its prey— and though a whole band of shepherds is called together against it, it is not frightened by their shouts or disturbed by their clamor— so the LORD Almighty will come down to do battle on Mount Zion and on its heights. Like birds hovering overhead, the LORD Almighty will shield Jerusalem; He will shield it and deliver it, He will ‘pass over’ it and will rescue it.”

I love the vivid imagery used to describe our powerful God! It says that our God will have the same ferociousness and voracity that a lion has over its prey. That no matter how many come against that lion, it will not be moved or driven off! This is the fierceness of our God for His people. Many can come against Him, but none will succeed or stop Him from protecting His own.

I think living in the age of grace has caused us to forget at times just how powerful and strong our God is. We look at Christ, and we see this beautiful picture of God’s heart, but we must not forget that Christ was not weak but rather was meek and willing to surrender to save us. It’s not that He couldn’t stop it all in a second but that He chose to save us instead of Himself. The entire time He had the power and authority to crush those who were crushing Him, yet He didn’t.

Meekness is strength under control, not lack thereof! It is good for us to read verses like these and remember just how big, strong, powerful, and fierce our God is. He will fight for you and me. He will guard you and me with a fierceness this world can’t match. He will provide for us a refuge both now and forever. He is the unmovable, unshakable, unwavering God of all creation, and He is ready and waiting for you!

One more thing… if God fiercely protects His people this way, then who really wants to be on the other side of that power? I don’t; do you? Surrender, repent, and return to the Lion and the Lamb, the Holy One of God, Jesus Christ, the great Defender and Protector of our souls!

Revelation 19:11-14- I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice He judges and wages war. His eyes are like blazing fire, and on His head are many crowns. He has a name written on Him that no one knows but He Himself. He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and His name is the Word of God. The armies of heaven were following Him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean.

That is Who we serve! God bless! I love you all, but His love will deliver you! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
