Psalm 149 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

Psalm 149:4

For the LORD takes delight in His people; He crowns the humble with victory.

What a mighty God we serve! I don’t know about you, but I like to win; whether it’s a board game or a sporting event, winning is the goal. How much more should we desire the victory God gives us through Jesus Christ? How much greater is the victory He offers us in Him? It is beyond comparison, and yet the Bible teaches us that this victory can be had very easily. Humility brings us the victory – stepping down off the throne we were never supposed to be on and exalting the One it was created for! It’s so simple yet profound and difficult all at the same time.

Our flesh cries out to be in charge, while the Spirit leads us to lay ourselves, our wants/desires, and all that we are down at His feet in reverence and obedience. We must fight against our feelings to be in control and humble ourselves before Him. If the God of all creation, who came in the likeness of man, humbled Himself completely, how much more those He came to set free and save?

The Bible also teaches us that Moses was the humblest of men in his time, and look at the special relationship the Lord grew, developed, and blessed him with out of his humble reverence for his God. We, too, can have a much deeper and fuller relationship with our God if we just humble ourselves more. Less of us and more of Him! If we want to go up, we must first go down. The one who humbles himself before God will be lifted up by God, but the one who exalts himself before God will be brought low by Him. Which one will we be today?

Numbers 12:3- (Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth.)

Luke 18:13,14- “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’ “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

God bless! I love you all, but His love humbly came to earth to save us! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
