Isaiah 42 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

Isaiah 42:6,7

“I, the LORD, have called you in righteousness; I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles, to open eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness.”

In a world where things expire, spoil, and fade, it is good for us to remember that God’s Word and His Promise never will! I love reading the Old Testament and seeing the foreshadowing of the coming Christ. Isaiah points to Christ some 700 years before He came to set us free. 700 years in man’s time is an eternity. I’m sure some of the people had given up or forgotten about the Promise to come, but not God! He waited until just the right time and sent Christ to seek and save the lost.

Why did He wait til then? I do not know, but I do know that His plan and purpose are as perfect as He is! It’s good for us to remember that God is not on our time schedule, nor is He forgetful or lazy in His promises to His people. We can look at the things He declared before that have now come to pass and have confidence He will do it again. If our God had promised and not fulfilled, then there may be some lingering doubts about who He is and what He can do. But since He has promised and carried out so much, let us rejoice in our hearts as we wait for Him.

Waiting isn’t easy; it’s downright hard, but to wait on God is to wait on the One who has everything you and I will ever need, knows everything we will ever need to know, and loves us more than we can truly fathom. Waiting on God is not an exercise in futility but a faith-building experience that strengthens us for the road ahead! If He has declared it shall come to pass, then come to pass it will! The question isn’t if He will do it but if will we be a part of it.

Isaiah 42:8,9- “I am the LORD; that is my name! I will not yield my glory to another or my praise to idols. See, the former things have taken place, and new things I declare; before they spring into being I announce them to you.”

God bless! I love you all, but His love will never expire, spoil or fade! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
