Isaiah 50 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

Isaiah 50:10,11

“Who among you fears the LORD and obeys the word of His servant? Let the one who walks in the dark, who has no light, trust in the name of the LORD and rely on their God. But now, all you who light fires and provide yourselves with flaming torches, go, walk in the light of your fires and of the torches you have set ablaze. This is what you shall receive from my hand: You will lie down in torment.”

Who or what are you trusting in today? We see such a real and sharp contrast here. God offers us Himself to lead us and be the one we rely on, but do we take Him up on His offer? Are we willing to lay down our own will to follow His? It is a mandatory thing in the Kingdom; Christ, the Son of God, did it, and so must we. Our will and our ways will lead us to one place, death and destruction.

How long I blindly and blatantly followed my flesh and the cravings of it. I ran after things in this life that seemed good and pleasing. All the while, they just drained my life away. But thanks be to God, who is rich in mercy, patient with the simple, and gracious to the lost! He reached down and redeemed me, and He will do the same for you. He picks no favorites. He has no unfairness or inequity in Him. He is pure, righteous, holy, all-powerful, and all-loving at the same time.

The world will tell you to step up and be a man or take care of it for yourself, stop acting like a child, and be an adult; while there are things we are called to do, we are never called to do them alone or in our own understanding and strength. God calls us to a life of full surrender and full reliance on Him. And why wouldn’t we want that? The God who calls the stars by name, dug the ocean trenches with a word, and created the mountains with a breath is the same one who wants to lead you through this life into the next! Will you follow Him, or light your own torch and suffer the consequences?

Jeremiah 9:23,24- This is what the LORD says: “Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the LORD.

God bless! I love you, but His love leads those who are willing to follow! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
