Jeremiah 5 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

Jeremiah 5:31

“The prophets prophesy lies, the priests rule by their own authority, and my people love it this way. But what will you do in the end?”

What a powerful question that each one must answer. What will we do in the end? Or better yet, whose will we be when that day comes? The Israelites had forsaken God and turned to idols; their idolatry and adultery had deep roots and had caused much pain, anguish, and loss. They had lost their way by following their own desires, and now they were at a breaking point. God’s judgment was about to be poured out, and though they deserved every bit of it, He still showed them mercy! Look what He says a little earlier in this chapter:

Jeremiah 5:18- “Yet even in those days,” declares the LORD, “I will not destroy you completely.”

You see, the judgment was coming, but it was coming to refine and remind them of the God they left, not to wipe them off the map. He desired for them to return to Him before it was too late. We must remember that we, like them, have gone astray, and God has given us an opportunity to repent and return before it’s too late as well. He has given us the Ultimate Gift in Jesus Christ, the Redeemer and Liberator of our souls! The question still remains, but the answer can only be Christ. He is the only acceptable answer on that day; either we belong to Him, or we belong away from Him.

Notice that all the people that are named in the first Scripture are God’s people: priests, prophets, and people. This is a warning to the church; let us get on board with God’s plan, or be left with the world.

Acts 4:11,12- “Jesus is ’the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.’ Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

God bless! I love you all, but His love offers you freedom; will you take it? Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
