Jeremiah 20 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

Jeremiah 20:13,14

Sing to the LORD! Give praise to the LORD! He rescues the life of the needy from the hands of the wicked. Cursed be the day I was born! May the day my mother bore me not be blessed!

In today’s society, Jeremiah might have been diagnosed as bipolar, and maybe he was. But I don’t think that’s what these verses teach us. They speak to me of a man in deep anguish, walking through a dark valley, yet still able and willing to praise the LORD! Jeremiah’s road was rough, filled with rejection and persecution for faithfully serving the LORD. His life was not one most of us would envy or want to emulate, but one thing we should strive to imitate is worship in the midst of these storms. Even those closest to him joined in this rejection and persecution, yet Jeremiah never stopped serving the LORD!

Imagine having your entire world turn against you for loving the LORD and declaring His truth; now imagine praising Him in the midst of that! Pretty powerful stuff! Guys, the Bible teaches us that in the last days, the world, even those closest to us, will reject us because of Christ. There will be persecution from many, even some within our own homes. Yet we are called to serve Him faithfully, praise Him continually, and pray for them constantly. Will we do this? We must start practicing our faith today if we want to stand on it tomorrow.

Faith, like a muscle, must be grown over time. You must not only exercise your muscles to get them to grow but you must feed them too! We must exercise our faith and feed it if we want it to grow! How can we feed it? Quite simply, read your Bible, pray, worship, listen to the Lord, and follow where He leads! There are many other examples, but let’s start there and see where He takes us!

Matthew 10:21,22- “Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death. You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.”

God bless! I love you all, but His love will lead us through that time if we rest and trust in Him! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
