Proverbs 30 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

Proverbs 30:5

Every word of God is flawless; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.

How quickly I can forget the truth and power of His Word in my own life. I can read a Scripture that says, “Do not fear, for I am with you,” and then turn around and fail to apply it to my life. I know His Word is perfect and flawless, but sometimes I fail to truly hold it in my heart. Lord help me, please!

When I take refuge in His Word, I am really taking refuge in Him. but when I let go of His Word and grab onto my fear, I am taking refuge in it. How vast a contrast that is! I can either dwell in the shelter of the Most High or cower in the shadow of my fear. It all starts with His Word and what I am doing with it. Am I reading and applying it to my life through the Holy Spirit, is it my life support and the very nourishment to my soul? Or is it just some letters on a page that sound good but truly don’t hold any bearing or power in my life?

I think that we can gauge where we’re at in this by what our hearts and lives look like. If my life looks more and more like Christ, then His Word is dwelling in me and I in it, but if my life looks the same after Christ as it did before, then can I truly say and believe that I’m His and that He is in me?

I may fail often, but He never does! Lord help us to hide Your Word in our hearts that we may not sin against you and that our lives would reflect the King who paid for them!

Psalm 119:11- I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

God bless! I love you all but, His love IS our only hope! Praise, glory, and honor both now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!

Proverbs 30:7-9

“Two things I ask of you, LORD; do not refuse me before I die: Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, ‘Who is the LORD?’ Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God.”

I love God’s Word and the deep treasures it holds. I have read these verses many times, but this morning, the Lord showed me something new. This man has requests he is making of God, but they are not for personal gain but rather out of love and reverence for his God. We see him ask for daily bread, but what is his reasoning for wanting just enough? Is it so his life will be comfy and without care? No! Is it so he can gloat over his enemies? No! The reason he gives is this: he loves and fears his God so much that he doesn’t want to tarnish His name or forget the One who feeds him. This is a beautiful heart of worship, one that is bent on honoring God, not the flesh. We see this man’s motives laid bare, and they are a pleasing aroma to his God. What do our motives look like?

Are they a pleasing aroma or a selfish stench to our God? The Bible teaches us that our motives are laid bare before our God. We may be able to fool man, but no man can fool the God who created them. There are good things in my life that I desire, but do I desire them with the right motives and heart-posture? Sadly no, not always, but my prayer today is that the Lord would refine my heart to reflect His in this and in all things! Christ doesn’t zap us into perfection but graciously and truthfully leads us down the path of completeness in Him, and only when we get to Heaven will this process be complete! Praise the God who is willing to work on us for a lifetime instead of leaving us in our selves and our sins!

Zechariah 4:10- Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand.” (The seven lamps represent the eyes of the LORD that search all around the world.)

God bless! I love you all, but His love takes us from small beginnings to Heavenly homes! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
