Ezekiel 27 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

Ezekiel 27:1,2

The word of the LORD came to me: “Son of man, take up a lament concerning Tyre.”

Our God truly does not delight in the death of the wicked; He does not delight when a person chooses death over life. The 26th chapter of Ezekiel is a prophecy against Tyre; it speaks of their sin and the LORD’s righteous judgement to come. Yet in the very next chapter, the LORD tells Ezekiel to take up a lament, which by the definition I Googled is a prayer expressing sorrow, pain, or confusion. So why would God call for a lament instead of a song of praise or victory?

It is because He does not enjoy the death of the wicked; though they get what they deserve, He does not rejoice or relish in it. His heart for the lost is amazing; how is ours? Do we rejoice when a perceived evil person gets their due, or do we respond the way the LORD does? This is not something we accomplish easily or without His help, but it is something that we can walk out daily in the Spirit.

To be honest, I have failed at this; either by judging out of pride or just lack of concern for the lost. I can forget how desperately lost I was and who I used to be before the Lord saved me and set me free. Lord, please forgive me and give me a heart for the lost as You have! One that does not delight when they die but one that pursues them in truth and love while they are alive!

The Lord is faithful, and He will do it, but will you and I go with Him? We all started the same way: sinners in desperate need of the Savior, and by the grace of God, we have been saved; will we take that truth to those around us?

Luke 5:31,32- Jesus answered them, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners and need to repent.”

God bless! I love you all, but His love came to save us and succeeded! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
