2 Timothy 4 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

2 Timothy 4:2

Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.

In our lives, there will be many seasons, some better than others, some full of hope and joy while others seem to drag on in despair. Yet regardless of the season we are in, we must be ready to share the love of Christ and the Word of Christ with those around us. It’s not going to be easy, but we have to fight against being distracted by the emotions of the season we’re in. This distraction may lead to us missing an opportunity to share the Gospel with those around us.

Its also interesting to me that Paul tells Timothy to be prepared for the season but not to make the season. He doesn’t say manifest the season, manipulate the season, or make the season but rather to be prepared regardless of the season. This is encouraging to me because it takes the pressure off. No longer do I have to “make it happen” or “make it work” but rather trust in God to do it and be ready to move when He says so.

Too often, we can get caught up in trying to make it happen out of thin air, but God doesn’t call us to pave the way but rather walk in the way He has prepared. Yes, we must pray and think about new ways to reach people and new ministries to serve in, but the pressure is not on us to make them work or be successful. That honor belongs to God, so today, let us prepare ourselves for the season ahead and be prepared to share the Lord with whoever He brings into our lives! We prepare ourselves by devoting ourselves to the Lord, in every way and in increasing measure! Lord, lead us in sharing your Gospel the way you want it to be shared!

1 Peter 3:15,16- Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it. But do this in a gentle and respectful way. Keep your conscience clear. Then if people speak against you, they will be ashamed when they see what a good life you live because you belong to Christ.

God bless! I love you all, but His love is the reason we can face any season! Praise, glory, and honor now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
