Zechariah 5:2,3
He asked me, “What do you see?” I answered, “I see a flying scroll, twenty cubits long and ten cubits wide.” And he said to me, “This is the curse that is going out over the whole land; for according to what it says on one side, every thief will be banished, and according to what it says on the other, everyone who swears falsely will be banished.”
This vision God gave Zechariah is interesting; it is a huge scroll with judgements pronounced on it. It speaks specifically to thieves and liars, but I think that we must look below the surface to find it’s true intent. As I read this morning, the Holy Spirit brought a thought to mind about what a thief and a liar really stands for. The answer He gave me was they are a worker of evil or one who belongs to the devil. So, this banishment that is proclaimed is not just for one who steals or lies but for the one who belongs to the father of these things.
Christ Himself says Satan is the father of lies and comes only to steal, kill and destroy. We see that both stealing and lying are products of who Satan is and what he does. So to me, this pronouncement of judgment is to all who belong not to Christ but His enemy. We must be examining ourselves against the Scriptures to see if we are truly in the faith. Of course, we are not saved by works but saved to do works.
It is Christ’s work on the cross that saves us; there’s no experience and no other ways to the Father, but if our life isn’t producing His fruit, then how can we truly say we belong to the True Vine? The branch can only produce what the vine provides. There will come a day for each one of us when we will have to stand before our Maker; none can avoid it. But you can avoid being separated from Him for all time by accepting His Son as your Lord and Savior today. What’s stopping you from taking a step of faith and moving from death to life today? The qualifier for admittance into Heaven isn’t good deeds or church attendance but is found and given in Jesus Christ alone!
2 Corinthians 13:5- Examine yourselves to see if your faith is genuine. Test yourselves. Surely you know that Jesus Christ is among you; if not, you have failed the test of genuine faith.
Acts 4:11,12- Jesus is “’the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.’ Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”
