Zechariah 9 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

Zechariah 9:3,4

“Tyre has built herself a stronghold; she has heaped up silver like dust, and gold like the dirt of the streets. But the Lord will take away her possessions and destroy her power on the sea, and she will be consumed by fire.”

This is a good reminder that wealth cannot deliver us from the day of wrath. No human efforts nor human riches will suffice on that day; it will not matter if we are white, black, brown, or purple. It will not matter if we are American, Russian, or Chinese, but it will only matter if we belong to Christ. He is the only way.

Tyre was an island city, safe, secure, and extremely prosperous. I’m sure they felt not fear nor worried about calamity, yet in all their splendor and safety, God still says it’s not enough. By man’s standards, they were untouchable and undeniably rich, but by the LORD’s standards, they were doomed because of what they trusted in.

They trusted in the protection of the sea around them, they trusted in the wealth that flowed through them, they trusted in the things of man instead of the Living God. Are we falling victim to the same trap? Do we rely on our government, our bank accounts, or ourselves more than the Living God? When there is an injustice in our lives, are we crying out to God for guidance and help, or are we lining up to take back what is ours? Does our security come from above or in how the Dow Jones is doing?

I’m not saying to live obliviously, but where does our help come from? If our answer is anything less than God Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth, then we are sadly mistaken. On that day, the day of judgement, there won’t be a line to plead your case or prove your point, there won’t be a place to pay for your admittance, nor can we ride the coat tails of a loved one in the door. Instead, the books will be opened and your name will either be called to enter glory or forever sent away. Jesus Christ is the only One who can deliver us on that day; will you call Him Lord and Savior today?

Revelation 12:10,11- Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: “Now have come the salvation and the power and the Kingdom of our God, and the authority of His Messiah. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down. They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.”

God bless! I love you all, but Jesus loves you more! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
