"Reckless" by Jeremy Camp Music Video Bible Study

Song: Reckless
Artist: Jeremy Camp

Show the video, then ask students, What do you think that song is about?

(Pass out the lyrics - included below.

The song is about not holding back with our faith, but being reckless and taking chances in our faith.

To illustrate, I want everyone to stand up and find a partner. Partners, choose one person to stand behind the other person. Now, the person in front, fold your arms across your chest and lean back, trusting your partner to catch you. (Have both partners do it and then continue with the lesson.)

How many of you were afraid to trust the other person to catch you?

It can be scary taking a chance and trusting someone else like that. You probably felt like you wanted to hold back because it wasn’t safe.

What are some ways you might hold back in your faith because you don’t feel safe?

If someone knows what God wants them to do, but they’re scared to do it, they’re holding back in their faith, aren’t they? But God wants us to be reckless and take a chance on Him. He won’t tell us to do things if He wasn’t going to be there for us.

Or what if we’re in a class at school or with a group of friends and we feel like we should say about our belief in God, but we’re afraid to? That’s holding back in your faith, isn’t it? But God wants us to be reckless and take a chance on what would happen in that situation. Maybe you saying something about your belief will get someone else thinking about putting their faith in God too.

Look at the line: “I won't waste any more time. My life's Yours; it is not mine. Use me, Lord, no matter what's at stake.”

What does this line say is the key to being reckless in our faith?

When we give our life totally to God, and we ask Him to use us however He wants to, then we’re not worried about ourselves anymore. It doesn’t matter what might make us afraid or nervous because it’s not about us anymore. We’re not living our lives for us. We’re living our lives for God.

Lyrics for Reckless:

Everytime I try to play it safe Holding back just a little part of me I find myself forgetting what I say that I believe The promise of Your Word Is all I need I'll lay my life down And give it up I'll give it up

I wanna be reckless Cause You are endless I wanna be shameless And shout Your greatness I will not be afraid To surrender my way And follow who You are I wanna be reckless, reckless

I will lose my life And just let go Because I know this world is not my home With fearless faith I won't be moved Unshakeable inside Your truth You laid Your life down And gave it up So I'll give it up

I wanna be reckless Cause You are endless I wanna be shameless And shout Your greatness I will not be afraid To surrender my way And follow who You are I wanna be reckless, reckless

I won't waste any more time My life's Yours it is not mine Use me Lord no matter what's at stake

"War of Change" by Thousand Foot Krutch Bible Study

Song: War of Change
Artist: Thousand Foot Krutch

Show the video, then ask students, What do you think that song is about?

(Pass out the lyrics - included below.

If you don’t want to pass out the lyric sheets, show the song via this fan made lyric video.)

Ask students, What lyrics in the song stand out to you? What do you think they mean?

Look at the line, “There's a war going on inside of me tonight”. What do you think the singer is talking about? What kind of war would be going on inside of him?

The Apostle Paul talked about a war that went on inside of him.

(Have students take turns reading Romans 7:14-25.)

Like Paul says, and like the song says, there’s a war going on inside of us. Our sinful natures, the part of us that wants to do what’s wrong and rebel against God is warring against the part of us that wants to live for God.

How does Paul say he wins this war against sin?

Jesus rescues him. He is saved by Jesus giving him the power to resist sin. And that’s what TFK is talking about in the song. The talk about a change that is happening in them.

“Wait, it's just about to break, its more than I can take, Everything's about to change, I feel it in my veins, it’s not going away, Everything's about to change, It's just about to break, its more than I can take, Everything's about to change, I feel it in my veins, it’s not going away, Everything's about to change.”

When we ask Jesus into our lives, He changes everything. He gives us the power of God to change our lives, to resist sin, and live victoriously for God. If we let Jesus into our lives, “Everything’s about to change”.

Lyrics for War of Change:

It's a truth that in love and war, World's collide and hearts get broken, I want to live like I know I'm dying, Take up my cross, not be afraid

[Chorus] Is it true what they say, that words are weapons? And if it is, then everybody best stop steppin', Cause I got ten in my pocket that'll bend ya locket, I'm tired of all these rockers sayin' come with me, Wait, it's just about to break, its more than I can take, Everything's about to change, I feel it in my veins, it’s not going away, Everything's about to change.

It creeps in like a thief in the night, Without a sign, without a warning, But we are ready and prepared to fight, Raise up your swords, don't be afraid,

[Chorus]

This is a warning, like it or not, I break down, like a record spinning, Gotta get up, So back off, This is a warning, like it or not, I'm tired of listenin', I'm warning you, don't try to get up, There's a war going on inside of me tonight (don't be afraid) [x2]

Wait, it's just about to break, its more than I can take, Everything's about to change, I feel it in my veins, it’s not going away, Everything's about to change, It's just about to break, its more than I can take, Everything's about to change, I feel it in my veins, it’s not going away, Everything's about to change.
