Children's Sermon on Being Like God - Ephesians 4:22-24

Children's Sermon on Being Like God - Ephesians 4:22-24

Use this children's sermon to teach children the secret to becoming like God!

Needed: Silly putty, a newspaper

Lesson: Show your silly putty to the students and ask, Do any of you know what this is? What can you do with it?

(Show them how you can copy an image onto it. Let a couple of them try it if you like.)

What do I have to do if I want the silly putty to copy what's on the page? I have to touch the silly putty to the paper, don't I?

Did you know that God wants us to be like silly putty? He wants us to be so close to Him in our hearts, talking about Him and learning about Him and loving Him, that we start to become like Him. Just like the silly putty copies what's on the page, God wants us to be so close to Him in our hearts that we start to copy the way He loves other people and the good things that He does.

(Read Ephesians 4:22-24, quoted here in the NIV.)

"You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness."

God wants us to be like Him, and they way we can become like God is to be close to Him so that we can start to copy how He acts and what He does.

Let's pray about that.

Sample prayer: Father God, please help us to be so close to You in our hearts that we start to copy how You act and the good things that You do, just like silly putty copies what's on a paper. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
