Sunday School Lesson on the Family of God - Matthew 12:46-50

Use this Sunday School lesson to teach children what it means to be a part of God's family.

Needed: pictures of your family

Ask children, Has anyone ever told you that you look like someone else in your family?

Sometimes, we can tell who someone's parents are, or who someone's brothers and sisters are because they look a little bit like each other.

(Show pictures of your family and point out examples.)

So we can tell who is in a family sometimes by whether they look like each other. But did you know that there's a way we can tell who is in God's family?

The Bible tells us that we can tell who is in God's family not by how they look, but how they act and the things that they do.

(Read Matthew 12:46-50.)

Jesus said you can tell if someone is in God's family by whether or not they are following God and doing what God wants them to do. If they are, then they're in God's family. And we want to be in God's family, don't we?

Let pray about that.

Sample prayer: Father God, we thank You loving us and wanting us to be a part of Your family. We pray that You will help us to follow You so that we can be in Your family. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
