New Years Childrens Sermon - New Year? New You!

New Years Childrens Sermon

New Year? New You!

Use this New Year’s children’s sermon to show kids the continually renewing power of God.

Scripture: Isaiah 43:19

Needed: something old and something new, such as a worn out pair of shoes and a new pair of shoes that are basically the same model or a worn out pair of socks and a new pair of socks, etc.

Children’s Sermon: Show children your worn item and discuss why it’s not as good as it used to be. Ask, What should I do now that this item is worn out? (Kids might say you should keep using it, donate or recycle it, throw it away, or get a new item.)

I like to keep using things as long as I can, but I think this is too worn to keep using. And I don’t want to give it to someone else because it’s too worn for anyone else to use too. I think the best thing is to get rid of it and get a new one.

(Show your new item.)

This will work much better. It’s new and in perfect condition. It’s ready for me to use it.

I have to get rid of what’s old so that I can replace it with something new.

And as we head into the New Year, I think about how we can rid of what’s old in us and change it for something new.

Did you know that God always to do something new?

(Read Isaiah 43:19.)

“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?”

What old things in us do you think God wants to get rid of so He can make us new?

God wants us to get rid of our old bad attitudes and the things we do wrong. He wants us to get rid of those things so that He can give us new good attitudes that show love for Him and for other people. He wants us to get rid of our old bad habits and mistakes so that we can do the good things He created us for.

Let’s pray right now that for this New Year, God will help us to get rid of the old, bad things in us and replace them with new, good things.

Closing Prayer: Father, we thank You that You always want to make us new. We pray that You’ll cleanse us from our old way of thinking and our old way of doing things and teach us how to think and do the new things that honor and please You. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
