Children’s Sermon on Luke 4:31-37 – The Demon-Possessed Man

Children’s Sermon on Luke 4:31-37 – The Demon-Possessed Man

Use this children’s sermon to teach kids that they don’t need to be afraid of demons if they believe in Jesus.

Scripture: Luke 4:31-37

Needed: picture of an empty house and a picture of Jesus in the house (included)

Children’s Sermon: Read Luke 4:33-35, quoted here in the NIV:

33 In the synagogue there was a man possessed by a demon, an impure spirit. He cried out at the top of his voice, 34 “Go away! What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”

35 Be quiet!” Jesus said sternly. “Come out of him!” Then the demon threw the man down before them all and came out without injuring him.

Ask, Does anyone here think demons are scary?

Why could some people think demons are scary?

Who is more powerful – Jesus or demons? Our Bible passage today shows us that Jesus is much more powerful than demons. He can order demons to come out of people.

Our passage is about a man possessed by a demon. The demon was living inside him. Do you think Christians can be demon-possessed? Can people who believe in Jesus have a demon living inside them?

A demon can live in someone who doesn’t believe in Jesus. It’s like our hearts are an empty house that the demon can come live in. (Show your picture of the empty house.)

But if Jesus is living in our hearts (show your picture of Jesus in the house), then the demon can’t come in because Jesus is already there. Jesus won’t let the demon come in.

So, if you believe in Jesus, you don’t have to be afraid of demons because Jesus is already living in your heart, and Jesus is much more powerful than the demons.

Closing Prayer: Jesus, we thank You that You have all the power over the demons and that You live in our hearts to protect us from the demons coming in. Help us to keep believing in You so that You will keep guarding our hearts. Amen.
