Labor Day Children's Sermon - Thank God for Work!

Labor Day Children's Sermon –

Thank God for Work!

Use this Labor Day children’s sermon to show kids how we can honor Jesus with our work.

Scripture: Genesis 2:15

Needed: three items produced by someone else that you bought (could include food items from a farm or store, manufactured items, or handmade items)

Children’s Sermon: Show your first item and ask, Who can guess where I got this? (Allow them time to discuss and then, explain where you purchased it and talk a little about the person or persons who likely produced it. Do the same for your remaining two items.)

I was able to buy all of these items because someone grew them or made them. Somebody worked to make these things. And I’m happy that they did work because all of these things make my life better in some way.

Did you know that God invented work?

God invented work when He made the first man, Adam.

(Read Genesis 2:15.)

“The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.”

God put Adam in the Garden of Eden to work. And God made all of us to work. Some of us work at our jobs, and some of us work at our houses. But He made all of us to do some kind of work.

That’s why we’re going to celebrate Labor Day tomorrow. We’re thankful for all the people who grow and make things so that our lives can be better.

Closing Prayer: Father God, thank You for making us all to do some kind of work so that we can be helpful to other people. Help us know what you want each of us to do for our work. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.

Labor Day Recommended Extra

Kids Bible Lesson about Work – a free lesson that suggests having the kids act out various jobs in a game of charades. You could also enlist the help of a few volunteers and have the kids guess which job the person is acting out.
