Children’s Sermon on Romans 5 – While We Were Still Sinners…

Children’s Sermon on Romans 5 – While We Were Still Sinners…

Use this children’s sermon about sin and God’s grace to explain Romans 5 and lead children to salvation.

Scripture: Romans 5

Needed: something breakable from around the church, maybe a decoration or Communion glass (at our House Church, I used a glass from our host’s cupboard), picture of the word sin (included), picture of a graveyard (included)

Children’s Sermon: Show children your breakable item and act as if you’re about to throw it on the ground or stomp on it to break it. Ask, Would it be wrong of me to break this? (Children will say yes.)

Why? No one told me not to break it. Can you know something is wrong even if no one tells you it’s wrong?

Yes, sometimes we know something is wrong because someone told us it was wrong, and sometimes, we know something is wrong because our conscience and our spirit inside us tell us it’s wrong.

But we all do wrong things sometimes, don’t we? (Show “sin” picture.)

When we do wrong things, we call that sinning. The wrong things we do are called sins. And when we sin, we are a sinner. Now, being a sinner – doing wrong things – makes us God’s enemy, and the punishment He gives us is we have to die. (Show picture of graveyard.)

The good news is we don’t have to stay dead. Our spirit can go to Heaven if we believe in Jesus. The Apostle Paul tells us…

(Read Romans 5:8, quoted here in the NIV.)

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

God loves us so much, that no matter how many wrong things we do, Jesus died to take all of our punishment from God. God the Father and Jesus agreed together that Jesus would die for us. So, all we have to do to be forgiven of all our sins (show “sin” picture again)…

…is believe in Jesus. Would you like to believe in Jesus today for God to forgive you for all the wrong things you do?

Closing Prayer: Father God, we know we all do wrong things against You. We thank You for sending Jesus to take the punishment for us. Help us to believe in Jesus in our hearts and do what is right from now on. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
