Genesis 1 Devotional Thoughts by Stephen Taylor

Genesis 1:3

And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.

Do we believe God when He says something? This is a very well-known verse, and I have always thought it was awesome the way God spoke everything into existence, but this morning, what the Holy Spirit revealed about this verse is that God speaks only the truth, and whatever He says, happens.

Think about it: God said, “Let there be light,” and guess what? There was instantly light. We can see the light God created. We experience it every day. And there wasn’t a process or procedure He had to go through. He just spoke it, and it happened! So, we believe this truth, but do we still believe it applies to us today? Do we still take God at His Word, or do we question it?

I think this verse is important because it sets the tone and theme of the Bible. God is truth. He speaks only the truth, and everything that comes from Him is truth. The Holy Spirit showed me that this keeping of His word is so crucial because now we know we can trust the rest of the Bible and lean on its promises! God gives us a physical manifestation that we can see and experience as truth, so that way, when He promises something we can’t see with our physical eyes, we believe Him because we know His character! Jesus did the same thing, oftentimes healing the person's physical ailments before He healed their spiritual ones! He showed us His power physically so we would trust Him spiritually and give God the glory and turn and repent!

If Jesus just walked around saying, “Your sins are forgiven,” and didn’t show us physically His power, we may or may not have believed. Now flip that, and you see Him making the lame walk, the blind see, and the dead live again. Now He has your attention, and you can trust that if He can heal you physically, then He can heal you spiritually as well! Thank You, Lord, for your love, truth, mercy, and grace!

Luke 1:37 – “For no word from God will ever fail."

Luke 5:23 - 25 – “Which is easier: to say, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Get up and walk'? But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins." So he said to the paralyzed man, "I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home." Immediately he stood up in front of them, took what he had been lying on, and went home praising God.

God bless! I love you all! Glory, Honor, and Praise forever to God Almighty, Jesus Christ the Messiah, and the Holy Spirit!

Genesis 1:4

God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness.

A couple of nights ago, during Bible study, Anthony Purpero brought the first four verses of the Bible up, and the point he made really struck me!

In verses 1-3, God declares Who He is and His sovereignty, and then in verse 4, He separates what is His or what is good! Throughout the entire Bible, God is separating what is His from the world! You are either separated from the world as a child of God or separated from God as an enemy of the Cross. You choose, but since the beginning, God has been separating what is His from what is not!

I don’t know about you, but I have lived a life full of darkness, and I never want to go back. A life without the Lord is bleak, sad, scary, depressing, and overwhelming all the time, and quite frankly, a miserable existence. But then you meet Jesus. He comes swooping in and sets you free! Suddenly, things are a little brighter, the days not so burdensome, the future not scary but exciting, and it’s all because He gives you Himself! Every day is a step toward the Lord or away from Him. What way will you choose today?

Matthew 25:34 – “Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.”

Matthew 25:41 - “Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.’”

There is your final separation -either from the Lord or from the world, and it’s straight from the mouth of Jesus. The question isn't if but when, and what side will you be on? You can be a sheep or a goat. The choice is yours!

God bless! I love you all! Glory, Honor, and Praise forever to God Almighty, King Jesus, and the Holy Spirit the Spirit of Truth!
