Romans 2:4 Devotion by Stephen Taylor

Romans 2:4

Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that His kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?

This verse shows the heart of our Lord and speaks volumes to me. I always knew God was kind, but I didn’t understand why until He revealed this verse to me the other day. It has been blowing my mind ever since! His kindness is not weakness, but rather one of His greatest gifts to us!!!

For me personally, punishment or the threat of it has never been a big motivator to me. I just put it in the back of my mind and will deal with it later. But when someone is kind to me, it makes me respond differently and want to do better. God knew this, and so It’s His kindness that is meant to turn us from our sin, not His judgment.

Throughout my life, God has shown patient kindness and tolerance instead of wrath and judgment, and it worked!!! It eventually broke through the hard ground of my heart and turned me to Him!!! I encourage you to embrace the God who chose kindness over force and who puts up with all our sin for a chance to turn us back to Him!!! If we don’t embrace His kindness and repent, then we are doomed to face His judgment. He is patient, He is powerful, and He has paid for you! The question is, will you respond???
