Children’s Sermon: Ask children, What is prayer?
What happens we pray?
(Read Luke 5:12-13 , quoted here in the NIV.)
While Jesus was in one of the towns, a man came along who was covered with leprosy. When he saw Jesus, he fell with his face to the ground and begged him, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.”
Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” And immediately the leprosy left him.
Let’s act out this story, because I think it will help us remember what prayer is and what happens when we pray.
First, the man has a problem and is very sad. Everyone, pretend you’re sad because you have a problem.
Then, the man sees Jesus. Everyone, pretend you just saw Jesus. You know Jesus can help you with your problem, so be excited to see Him.
The man fell at Jesus’ feet (kneel down to Jesus) and said, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” Say, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.”
And then what did Jesus do? He reached out His hand and touched the man. Imagine Jesus reaching out His hand and touching you. This story shows us that if we come closer to Jesus, He comes closer to us.
So, Jesus reached out and touched the man, and then the man’s problem went away. Jesus changed the man immediately. Everyone, act happy because Jesus helped you with your problem.
Remember this story when you pray. The steps are:
- You come to Jesus and tell Him your problem, believing He can help you.
- Jesus wants to help you, and He reaches out His hand to touch you.
- When Jesus touches you, He changes you.
