2 Kings 10 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

2 Kings 10:28,29

So Jehu destroyed Baal worship in Israel. However, he did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, which he had caused Israel to commit—the worship of the golden calves at Bethel and Dan.

Be awake and alert, and let us not fall into the trap that Jehu did. Jehu traded a “detestable idol” for an “acceptable one.” In his eyes, there wasn’t a problem with this, but in God’s sight, they are both a sin. Just because society, leaders, or government deem something acceptable doesn’t mean that God shares the same views.

How easy it is for us to go from one sin to another, to say homosexuality is a horrendous sin but greed an acceptable one. We aren’t the ones who get to determine what sin is and which ones are worse; that is God’s job, and He is perfect at it.

If we’re not careful, we can try to justify ourselves by comparing our sin to other sins, which just leads to more sin. We trap ourselves and expose our hearts when we say things like, “Well, at least I don’t…” or, “At least I’m not like…” That, my friends, is just a cop-out or an excuse to sin more. Do we really want to try to justify ourselves by comparing our sin to a holy and righteous God? There is only One who freely justifies all who come to Him, and that is Jesus Christ! We have to stop using our sin as the standard by which we seek to be justified and start using the only true standard, Jesus Christ the Righteous One!

Romans 3:22-24- This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

God bless! I love you all, but His love has justified us! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
