Esther 1 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

Esther 1:12

But when the attendants delivered the king’s command, Queen Vashti refused to come. Then the king became furious and burned with anger.

The nobles we’re assembled, the tables set, and the celebration underway, and yet the queen refuses to come to her king. The bride had rejected her groom, she denied his command, and it cost her dearly. Will we deny our King and pay a price we can’t afford?

The Holy Spirit showed me that just as Queen Vashti rejected the command of her king and suffered, so will we if we reject the command of the King of kings. We are called to live a life of reverent obedience to our God. We belong not to an earthly kingdom but an eternal one that is ruled by the God of all creation. There is no room in the King's Kingdom for dissension or disobedience. He has no use for a heart that's loyalty is divided between Him and anything else.

Think of the great price He paid for us, how He did not have to but chose to, how it cost Him everything that we may have everything in Him! He commands and deserves our undivided loyalty and faithful obedience. So, when He calls for us, we must go! We can’t be like Vashti and reject and refuse to come but have to hear the call of our King’s voice and come running. He is worthy of our full obedience and deserving of nothing less.

Vashti’s penalty for rejecting the king and refusing to obey him was to be banished from his presence for all time. How much more will this be true for those who reject God’s Son, the King of Glory? If you’re reading this, it’s not too late; humble your heart before Him and ask Him for His help. He is waiting; He is willing; He is worthy!

Esther 1:19-21- “Therefore, if it pleases the king, let him issue a royal decree and let it be written in the laws of Persia and Media, which cannot be repealed, that Vashti is never again to enter the presence of King Xerxes. Also let the king give her royal position to someone else who is better than she. Then when the king’s edict is proclaimed throughout all his vast realm, all the women will respect their husbands, from the least to the greatest.” The king and his nobles were pleased with this advice, so the king did as Memukan proposed.

God bless! I love you all, but His love is calling! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
