Exodus 9 Devotional Bible Study
Exodus 9 Chapter Summary
Next was the plague on livestock. All the livestock in Egypt died except for those in the land of Goshen.
Next came the plague of boils on people and animals.
Next came the plague of hail destroying the growing crops growing in that season.
Each time, Pharaoh said he would let the people go, then changed his mind.
What Could the Lord Do to Us?
Exodus 9:15
“For by now I could have stretched out my hand and struck you and your people with a plague that would have wiped you off the earth.”
The Christian life often begins with fearing God, and rightly so. He has all the power. He can do anything He wants. He could destroy us if He wanted to, and one day, He will call us to account and judge us for our sins.
The Good News is that God is more than our God. He is more than our Judge. He is our loving Heavenly Father, who doesn’t want to destroy us. He gives us warning after warning, chance after chance to accept His mercy and be at peace with Him. Let us be wise and willingly obey Him now, before we face Him in the Judgment.
Do You Fear the Word of the Lord, or Do You Ignore It?
Exodus 9:19-21
“Give an order now to bring your livestock and everything you have in the field to a place of shelter, because the hail will fall on every person and animal that has not been brought in and is still out in the field, and they will die.’” Those officials of Pharaoh who feared the word of the Lord hurried to bring their slaves and their livestock inside. But those who ignored the word of the Lord left their slaves and livestock in the field.
The Lord gave the Egyptians chance after chance to listen to Him. Some of them did, and were able to avoid this punishment. Others didn’t. Which group do we fall into? Do we take heed when the Lord says something, or do we ignore it and face the consequence?
I want to be a person who takes what the Lord says very seriously.
