Mark 4 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

Mark 4:26-29

He also said, "This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. All by itself the soil produces grain—first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come."

One thing Jesus is teaching us through this parable is that the Kingdom of God is gonna grow with or without us. His Kingdom will not fail, falter, or fade. It has been sown in righteousness and will remain forever.

Too often, we can put the responsibility of growing His Kingdom on ourselves and our ministries, but the truth is it grows because of Him, not because of us. For truly, each of us only has a ministry to serve in because He gave it to us in the first place. None of us earned our way into His service, nor did we buy it with our good deeds, but it was His good pleasure to bless each of us with a spot serving and sharing Him!

This does not mean that we lack any responsibility in this matter, but it does take the burden to produce off of us. We are to be faithful in what He has given us, adhering ever closer to the Word of God and growing more and more in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ.

But as for numbers or success, that part is not up to us. For success in God's Kingdom can only be measured by the King. The size of the congregation does not matter as much as the faithfulness of the one who is leading it. If God sends you to preach to a thousand people, and you do it faithfully and for His glory, praise God! If God never gives you a congregation but rather sends you after that one lost sheep, and you do it faithfully and for the glory of God, then praise God! We mustn't put our human standards on His Divine appointments.

Think about this: by feeble human standards, Christ's life was a failure that ended in a horrific death, but in God's eyes, it was the perfect life lived and the only sacrifice worthy of saving us! Our standards of success are not the same. So today, in whatever station He has given us to serve, let us be faithful and do it all for the glory of God!

Colossians 3:23,24- Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

Ecclesiastes 9:10- Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the realm of the dead, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.

God bless! I love you all, but His love brought the greatest victory we have ever known! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
