Why Do We Sing in Church? Children’s Sermon
Needed: Nothing
Scripture: Psalm 96:1-3, Colossians 3:16
Children’s Sermon: Ask students, Do any of you like to sing?
Why do you think we sing in church?
Who are we singing about when we sing in church?
Sometimes we’re singing about God and sometimes we’re singing to God, and when we sing, it helps us tell how God how we feel about Him. Our singing comes from full hearts being poured out to God.
(Read Psalm 96:1-3 and the last part of Colossians 3:16.)
Why do we stand up when we sing about God and to God?
You might not know this, but when someone important enters a room, people show respect by standing up. It’s like when a judge enters the courtroom, the police officer tells everyone, “All rise,” or if the President of the country walks into a room, everyone would stand up. Or when a woman who is getting married steps into the sanctuary and gets ready to walk down the aisle, everyone stands to honor her.
We stand when we sing to God to show Him respect and to honor Him as He comes to meet with us.
Closing Prayer: Father, we thank You for coming to be with us in church. We know You’re with us everywhere, but we also know that You’ve made church time to be a special time. Help us to honor You and to sing from our hearts when we praise and worship You.
