Why Did Jesus' Spit Heal the Deaf Man and the Blind Man?

Ask students, do any of you have a body parts that hurt today? Do you have any injuries?

Okay, I'm going to make them better. I'll just spit on them and then you'll be good as new. Would that be all right with you? (No!)

Why not? (It's gross!)

But Jesus did it. There are two stories in which He put His spit on someone and made them better. (Read or summarize Mark 7:31-35 and Mark 8:22-25.)

Would you like me to spit on my fingers and then touch your tongue? Would you like me to spit on your eyes? (No!)

Could I make someone better if I spit on them? (No!)

Why did it work for Jesus?

Because Jesus was showing us that what comes out of His mouth - His words, His teaching - is what heals us. If we listen to what comes out of Jesus' mouth, we will be healed in our spirits.
