Jesus Covers Our Sins! Children's Sermon

Jesus Covers Our Sins!

SCRIPTURE: Romans 3:25 / Ephesians 1:7 / Colossians 1:14 / Hebrews 9:26 / Hebrews 10:10 / Hebrews 10:14 / 1 Peter 2:24 / 1 John 1:7 / 1 John 2:2 / Revelation 1:5

BIG IDEA: We can pray for forgiveness through Jesus' blood.

Supplies: piece of paper, marker, cloth covering

 Story

Show students a piece of paper.  This piece of paper is a person. What are some bad things, or sins, that a person might do?

Write the sins on the paper as students name them.

Wow! That's a lot of sins! What does God think about all these bad things this person has done?

Just like a good parent, God doesn't like it when we do bad things, and He says He will punish us for our sins.

But this person doesn't have to be punished. Jesus was already punished for all the wrong things this person did. How was Jesus punished?

Jesus died on the cross. Everyone hold out your arms like Jesus dying on the cross.

So, if this person wants to be forgiven for all the bad things they did, they can pray and ask Jesus' blood to cover their sins.

Take a cloth and cover the piece of paper. Can you see the sins this person committed? No! They're covered by the blood of Jesus. When God looks at them, He sees Jesus' blood covering them instead of all the wrong things they did.

And we all have wrong things that we've done. But if we pray to God, Jesus' blood will cover our sins too, and God will forgive us for any sins we've committed. God will treat us like we never did those wrong things.

So, what do we have to do for Jesus' blood to cover our sins?

We just have to pray and ask for it! Let's pray now.

Closing Prayer: Father God, we thank You that Jesus already took our punishment for us. We ask now for His blood to cover our sins. Forgive us and treat us like we never did anything wrong against You. In Jesus' name, amen.
