Isaiah 36 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

Isaiah 36:4,5

The field commander said to them, “Tell Hezekiah: “’This is what the great king, the king of Assyria, says: On what are you basing this confidence of yours? You say you have counsel and might for war—but you speak only empty words. On whom are you depending, that you rebel against me?”

How we answer these questions matters! Hezekiah and the people of Judah were trapped, besieged by their enemies, with no hope of escape. But God did not have escape in mind for them on this day but rather something more – deliverance! God didn’t just want to lead them away from this battle but give them victory in it through Him!

Hezekiah’s confidence and dependence was on the Lord; is ours? If we are relying on anything or anyone more than we are relying on the Lord, we will be let down. It’s impossible for man to sustain and supply us the way that God can; if man could do it, then why would we look to God? God has to be our main provider and protector. He can’t be an afterthought or last resort, but He must be our go-to and first choice. This doesn’t mean that God will reject us if we run to something else first, but we can save ourselves a lot of hardship and heartache by skipping that step and going straight to Him.

We must be prepared in the time of peace for the days of war. They are coming, and our enemy will surround us the way the Assyrians surrounded Judah. They had intentions to destroy and take captive all the people of Judah, but God had different plans. Judah was victorious not because they were good people but because they had a good God. Rich in mercy, faithful in His promises, and fierce in His protection of His people. We, like them, will still face tough battles and hard times, but we don’t have to face them alone!

So, where is your confidence, and who are you depending on to save? In order for us to stand against the enemy, we must first humble ourselves before our God and trust that He is who He says He is!

Psalm 122:1,2- A song of ascents. I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.

God bless! I love you all, but His love is victory l! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
