Zechariah 4 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

Zechariah 4:8,9

Then the word of the LORD came to me: “The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this temple; his hands will also complete it. Then you will know that the LORD Almighty has sent me to you.”

This is a beautiful reminder that what God calls you to start, God will help you to finish! Zerubbabel had hard days, long days, dark days, yet he saw the work completed not by his own power or strength but by the mighty Spirit of God! God did not leave him in those hard days, nor did he tell him to figure it out on his own, but God Almighty was moving behind the scenes and in people’s hearts the whole time.

What has God called you to undertake for His glory and Kingdom? Where has He called you to build something or someone up in Him? We may not be called to rebuild the temple, but each is called to serve Him in unique and differing ways. Same God, same team, but each has a unique calling on their life.

With this unique calling, comes unique gifting that will help accomplish our Master’s will and desires. If you don’t know your calling, maybe start by looking at your giftings and prayerfully ask the LORD how He wants to use them. Secondly, look at your history and what God has brought you through; it may be that He wants to use those experiences to help those who are struggling the same way. I’m sure there were days when Zerubbabel wanted to give up and throw in the towel, but by the grace of God and the power of His Spirit, he persevered through it.

Lord, help us on those hard days to lean into Your Spirit and soak up Your grace in such a way as to see the work finished! Our God has the power, but He gave us a part: will you come and serve in yours?

Zechariah 4:6,7- So he said to me, “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty. “What are you, mighty mountain? Before Zerubbabel you will become level ground. Then he will bring out the capstone to shouts of ‘God bless it! God bless it!’”

God bless! I love you all, but His love illuminates the narrow path home! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
