Children's Sermon on Proverbs - God Wants Us to Be Wise

Use this Proverbs Sunday School lesson to show children why following God's rules is wise.

(Based on Proverbs 8.)

Needed: Nothing.

Lesson: Ask students, How many of you like rules?

 

Where do you have rules? (Take one of their answers, like home or school, and use it as an example.)

 

What are some of the rules you have at _? (Take a rule and use it as an example.)

 

Why do you think that's a rule? What would happen if I didn't follow that rule? (Show that breaking the rule would harm me in some way.)

 

So, really, the rule is there for my good, isn't it? It helps me to be safe and happy.

 

That's the same way it is with the rules God gives us. God gives us the rules that He does because He knows that if we follow His rules, we will be safer and happier because of it.

 

And when we follow God's rules, when we make good decisions like that, do you know what that's called?

 

It's called being wise, or showing wisdom. Everyone say "wisdom". Wisdom is making good decisions and following God's rules so that we can be safe and happy.

 

Let's pray and ask God for wisdom.

Sample prayer: Father God, we thank You for caring about us and giving us Your rules to make us safe and happy. We pray that You would give us wisdom so that we can make the good decision to follow Your rules. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
