Children’s Sermon on Psalm 7 – Fear the Lord

Children’s Sermon on Psalm 7 – Fear the Lord

Use this children’s sermon about Psalm 7 to teach kids to fear the Lord.

Scripture: Psalm 7

Needed: nothing

Children’s Sermon: Ask children, how would you describe God? What words come to mind when you think of God? (Affirm all reasonable answers.)

Listen to part of Psalm 7 and tell me what stands out to you.

(Read Psalm 7:10-13, quoted here in the NIV.)

“My shield is God Most High,
    who saves the upright in heart.
God is a righteous judge,
    a God who displays his wrath every day.
If he does not relent,
    he will sharpen his sword;
    he will bend and string his bow.
He has prepared his deadly weapons;
    he makes ready his flaming arrows.”

What stood out to you in those verses? (Discuss the passage as children bring things up.)

This passage tells us God is like a shield who will protect and save us if we do right. But He’s also a judge. If we do wrong, He will show His anger. It says God will sharpen His sword and bend His bow ready to fire with flaming arrows. God punishes people who do wrong things.

I don’t want God to punish me; do you? (No.)

So, let’s not make God punish us. Let’s do the right things so that He doesn’t get angry with us and have to punish us.

Closing Prayer: Father God, You are the righteous judge. You have the right to punish us when we do wrong. But you save those who do right. Help us to do right, Lord. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
