Children’s Sermon on Simeon and Anna – Learning from the Aged

Children’s Sermon on Simeon and Anna – Learning from the Aged

Use this children’s sermon on Simeon and Anna when Jesus was presented in the Temple to teach children the value of learning from older adults.

Scripture: Luke 2:22-40

Needed: a picture of Simeon and Anna (included below)

Children’s Sermon: Say, our story today is about the time Jesus’ parents, Mary and Joseph, took Him to the Temple when he was only eight days old. When they went into the Temple, there were two older people there, Simeon and Anna (show your picture).

Simeon was an old man who loved God. And Anna was an old woman (84 years old) who had been married for 7 years when she was younger, and then, when her husband died, she stayed at the Temple all the time worshiping God.

Both Simeon and Anna were prophets, and when they saw Jesus, they knew who He was immediately and started telling everyone who was in the Temple about Him.

That story makes me thinks of the older people in our lives. Do you know any older people who love God? Maybe it’s your grandparents or another older person in your church.

Many older people have known the Lord for a long time, just like Simeon and Anna did, and they can help us learn about God and how to serve Him. So, I want to encourage you to ask older people about what they’ve learned about God, and when an older person wants to tell you something, listen closely.

Closing Prayer: Father God, we thank You for the older people in our lives. We thank You for teaching them during their life so that they can teach us. Help us to listen to what they have to say. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
