Children’s Sermon on Psalm 1 – Separating Ourselves from Sin

Children’s Sermon on Psalm 1 – Separating Ourselves from Sin

Use this children’s sermon on Psalm 1 to teach kids what it means to separate themselves from sinful behavior.

Scripture: Psalm 1

Needed: three volunteers (this doesn’t necessarily need to be planned ahead of time)

Children’s Sermon: Gather children together, then call an adult volunteer to come up and walk the children a few feet away. As they’re walking say something like, “To me, it looks like you’re with _ because you’re walking with _. It’s like you’re in a group together.”

When the get to their location, thank the volunteer and then tell the children to go stand by someone else. When they get into place, say, “To me, it looks like you’re with _ because you’re standing with them.”

Now, have the children go sit by a third person and make the same observation.

(Read Psalm 1.)

“The Bible tells us we shouldn’t walk with the wicked or stand with sinners or sit with mockers. So if we pretend _ is a mocker, and you’re sitting with them, what should you do?

“You should get away from them! Come back over here. Hurry! The Bible tells us we need to not be with those people so that we make sure we can be separate and holy for Him.”

Closing Prayer: Father God, help us to recognize when someone we’re with is sinning against You. Help us not to join in their sin but to separate ourselves from it so that we can be Your holy children. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
