Children’s Sermon on Romans 3:21-31 – Placing Our Faith in God’s Better Deal

Children’s Sermon on Romans 3:21-31 – Placing Our Faith in God’s Better Deal

Use this children’s sermon about Romans 3 to show children that we can’t trust in our own righteousness but only in God’s.

Scripture: Romans 3

Needed: a box of cookies or another prize

Children’s Sermon: As kids come up, show them your box of cookies and say, I’ll make a deal with you. I’ll give you this box of cookies if you can answer all of my questions correctly. Are you ready?

How far away from the Earth is the Moon?

How does gravity work?

What exactly is dark matter in space?

(Kids will not be able to answer these questions.)

Those are hard questions, aren’t they? Well, God made kind of the same deal with humans. He said we could go to Heaven if we follow His rules and never make one mistake. Do you think anyone could ever follow God’s rules and not make one mistake their entire life?

Jesus did follow God’s rules perfectly, but no one else can. Because we have a sinful nature, it’s impossible for us to keep all of God’s rules and never make a mistake.

So, God gave us another way we could go to Heaven. In fact, He was planning on making this second deal with us all along. He sent Jesus to die as the punishment for our sins and said that if we have faith in the sacrifice of Jesus, we can go to Heaven.

That sounds like a better deal, doesn’t it? Instead of having to follow all of God’s laws perfectly and never make a mistake, we just need to have faith in Jesus.

(Read Romans 3:22-24, quoted here in the NIV.)

“This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.”

So, because God gave us a better deal for going to Heaven, I’ll give you a better deal for getting these cookies. Here’s the deal: All you have to is bow your head and let me say a prayer for us.

Closing Prayer: Lord God, You are so gracious to us. You sent Jesus to die to take our punishment. Help us to be believe and trust and have faith in the sacrifice of Jesus. Amen.

(Give each child a cookie.)
