2 Samuel 12:24-25 Devotion by Stephen Taylor

2 Samuel 12:24-25

Then David comforted his wife Bathsheba, and he went to her and made love to her. She gave birth to a son, and they named him Solomon. The LORD loved him, and because the LORD loved him, he sent word through Nathan the prophet to name him Jedidiah.

There are many verses about conception in the Bible, but I can’t remember any other than this one that uses the phrase “made love to her.” What a beautiful picture here of David consoling his wife and the Lord blessing them with another child conceived and born out of love, and not just any child, but one whose name means “friend of God” and who would be a member of the genealogy of Jesus! And as I read this, I couldn’t help but think about another child conceived and born out of love.

A Child was given to the world to save it, a Child the world desperately needs even though it rejected Him! You see, Solomon was given to them out of love to lead God’s people for a time, but Jesus was given to us out of love to lead God’s people for all time! It was the Father's love that sent Him and sustained Him. It was the Father's love that surrounded Him and kept Him strong! A love that we can’t even begin to fathom or understand but a love we all desperately need! A love that is willing to tell you the truth regardless of your feelings, a love that doesn’t back down or waiver, a love that isn’t based on works, stature, or title. A love so deep that it went all the way to the cross and past it! A love that built a bridge to a Kingdom we know nothing about, nor do we deserve. A love that came from Heaven to earth, and this love has a name. It’s Jesus!

I encourage you today to lean into this Love and surrender anything you have been holding back. God didn’t hold back the most precious thing to Him, so why are we holding back on Him? How long is the Father's love? I’m not entirely sure, but the nails that went into the hands and feet of Jesus were 5-7 inches long, so I would say that’s a good place to start!

Romans 8:32 - He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all - - how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?

God bless! I love you all, but He loves you so much more! Glory, Honor, and Praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our Risen King, and the Holy Spirit!
