Children’s Sermon on the Name of Jesus - God Saves!
Use this children’s sermon on the angel naming Jesus to teach children how Jesus saves us from our sins.
Scripture: Matthew 1:18-25
Needed: a picture of a fireman rescuing someone from a burning building (included below)
Children’s Sermon: Can anyone give me an example of someone saving someone else? (fire, drowning, car wreck, doctors, etc.)
One way people can save another person is when a fireman saves someone from a burning building. (Show your picture).
What would happen if someone was in a burning building and the firemen didn’t save them? (They would die.)
The fireman goes to save people when they’re in danger. And Jesus came to save us because we were in danger. Do you know what Jesus saves us from?
When Jesus was about to be born, the angel Gabriel told Joseph that Jesus would save people from their sins.
Sins are when we do something wrong that God doesn’t want us to do. And God’s punishment for us when we do something wrong is that we die and go to Hell. So, when we do wrong things, we’re in danger of going to Hell. But the Bible says Jesus saves us from our sins. In fact, Jesus’ name means “God saves.” If we believe in Jesus, He saves us from going to Hell and makes it so that we can go to Heaven instead.
Let's review (maybe have kids answer these questions as loudly as they can to make sure they remember the information):
What does Jesus' name mean? (God saves!)
And what does Jesus save us from? (Our sins!)
So, when you think of Jesus, remember His name means “God saves,” and you can think about how Jesus saves us from our sins.
Closing Prayer: Father God, we thank You for sending Jesus to save us from our sins. And Jesus, we thank You for coming to save us. Help us to believe in You and thank You every day for what You did for us Amen.
