Children’s Sermon on Revelation 1 – Taking Scripture to Heart

Children’s Sermon on Revelation 1 – Taking Scripture to Heart

Use this children’s sermon on Revelation 1 to teach children about taking Scripture to heart.

Scripture: Revelation 1

Needed: a gift someone gave you

Children’s Sermon: Ask children, What’s your favorite gift someone gave you this year?

(Show a gift someone gave you and talk about who gave it to you.)

How do you think _ would feel if they gave me this gift, and then I just threw it away? (They would feel bad.)

What if _ gave it to me, and I loved it and treasured it and took it to heart (hold the gift to your heart)? (They would feel good.)

God says that His Scriptures, the Bible, is a gift He’s given us that He wants us to treasure and take to heart.

(Read Revelation 1:3, quoted here in the NIV.)

“Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.”

What does it mean to take Scripture to heart? (To pay attention to it, to believe it, to live by it.)

And this verse we just read says that if we do take Scripture to heart, God will bless us.

Closing Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your giving us Your Word in the Bible. Help us to take it to heart when we hear it. In Jesus’ name, amen.
