2 Samuel 15 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

2 Samuel 15:29-31

The king said to Ittai the Gittite, “Why should you come along with us? Go back and stay with King Absalom. You are a foreigner, an exile from your homeland. You came only yesterday. And today shall I make you wander about with us, when I do not know where I am going? Go back, and take your people with you. May the LORD show you kindness and faithfulness.” But Ittai replied to the king, “As surely as the LORD lives, and as my lord the king lives, wherever my lord the king may be, whether it means life or death, there will your servant be.”

We too must be foreigners devoted to our King! We see Ittai’s deep devotion and commitment to King David: do we honor and follow the King of kings the same way? Ittai would rather wander in the wilderness with his king than live in luxury without him! Imagine if we as the Body of Christ had this heart posture. No matter the cost, no matter the journey, no matter what, we are going to follow our King! Think about the impact we would have on this world, both near and far! Faith and commitment like that would spread like wildfire. Maybe our boldness and faithfulness would speak to this desperate world in a way they could hear and understand us as saying, “We’re not perfect, and we don’t have it all figured out, but He does, and we’re going wherever He does!”

We must lead by example before anyone will believe and follow us to Him. We can’t save them, but we know the One who can, and we know the way to Him.

Will we be like Ittai, a foreigner with a deep commitment and devotion to his king and a willingness to follow his king at all costs? Ittai’s king was mortal. How much more should we serve the immortal and eternal King. Or will we continue to stand on the sidelines watching the world march on to its doom without Him? Revival starts with one; will you be the spark that ignites it?

Isaiah 57:15- For this is what the high and exalted One says— He who lives forever, whose name is holy: “I live in a high and holy place, but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.”

God bless! I love you all, but His love reigns forever! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
