Children’s Sermon on Revelation 2 – Letter to Ephesus – Testing the Apostles

Children’s Sermon on Revelation 2 – Letter to Ephesus – Testing the Apostles

Use this children’s sermon on Revelation 2 to teach children how to tell a true leader of God’s church.

Scripture: Revelation 2:2

Needed: a piece of paper

Children’s Sermon: Show students your piece of paper and say, This is a piece of metal. Do you believe it’s a piece of metal?

How could you test if it’s a piece of metal or not? (Looking at it, touching it, trying to tear it, etc.)

Could you test if this was metal if you don’t know what metal was like?

You can usually test things to see if they’re real or not. In Jesus’ letter to the church in the city of Ephesus, Jesus tells the church they’ve done a good job testing people who say they should be leaders in the church, but they’re really not.

How do you think we could test someone to see if they really should be a leader in the church?

We could look to see if they’re really living like a Christian. We could check to see if they teach the right things. If they don’t live like a Christian or teach what the Bible says, then they’re not really supposed to be a leader of God’s church. It’s that simple.

(Pull out your piece of paper again.) Now, if you didn’t know what metal felt like, could you feel this and tell if it was metal or not? Of course not! You have to know what real metal is like to know if this metal or not.

In the same way, could we test someone to see if they should be a leader in the church if we don’t know how a leader is supposed to live or what they’re supposed to teach? Of course, not!

That’s one of the reasons why we need to know what the Bible teaches – so we can test people who say they’re Christians or say they should be leaders and know whether they really are or not.

Closing Prayer: Father God, impress upon our hearts how important it is for us to study Your Word. Give us a desire to learn and do what You say. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
