Deuteronomy 17 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

Deuteronomy 17:18-20

When he takes the throne of his kingdom, he is to write for himself on a scroll a copy of this law, taken from that of the Levitical priests. It is to be with him, and he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the LORD his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decrees and not consider himself better than his fellow Israelites and turn from the law to the right or to the left. Then he and his descendants will reign a long time over his kingdom in Israel.

The importance and power of writing down the Word of God, carrying it, and reading it all the days of our lives can’t be missed here! These were instructions Moses gave the Israelites for the king to come. They were to hand-write it, carry it on them, and read it all the days of their lives, and why was that? Because it taught them how to revere (respect, cherish, treasure) God, obey His laws which speaks of our love relationship with Him, and would keep the king humble before the Lord and the people! How amazing is that! By doing these simple tasks, there could be such a great blessing!

And since we know that God does not change, we too can expect this to work for us! So the challenge that the Holy Spirit brought to mind is this: starting today, hand-write a Scripture, carry it with you for a month, and read it each day. Then, the next month, do it again. That will be 12 Scriptures for the year, and I believe a great way to not only draw near to God but to grow further out of our flesh! We don’t know exactly what the Lord will do with this, but we do know that His promises then are still good today and that those that seek Him with all their heart will find Him!

Jeremiah 29:13- You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Psalm 119:11- I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

God bless! I love you all, but His love meets all our needs! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
