Proverbs 27 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

Proverbs 27:1

Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.

Matthew 6:34- Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

The Bible is very clear about focusing on today and not tomorrow. How often I fail at this! It’s so easy to focus and worry about tomorrow, all the while forgetting to be grateful for today. So many people don’t have today. Their last today has come and gone. If we could ask them about their lives, I wonder how many would go back and do their “todays” differently and not worry so much about the tomorrow that may or may not come.

Looking forward instead of living in the moment is just another scheme of the enemy. The enemy can distract us and disarm us with our “tomorrows,” all the while with us missing Christ today! Think about it like this: if I say I’m going to start living for, in, and through Christ tomorrow, then I will never start today.

We can’t serve, worship, love, and obey God tomorrow unless we start today. It can be easy for us to look ahead and worry and call it planning, but are we okay when He changes the plan? The answer to that can help us see who is truly reigning in our lives, us or the King. I wonder how many people we have missed sharing the love of Christ with today because we were so focused on tomorrow. So, today, can we lay our tomorrows down at the feet of Jesus and just trust that the One who created tomorrow is still in control today!?

Joshua 24:14,15- “Now fear the LORD and serve Him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your ancestors worshiped beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD. But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.”

Hebrews 3:13- But encourage one another every day, as long as it is still called “today,” so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.

God bless! I love you all, but His love is for today and tomorrow and forever! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
