Romans 4 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

Romans 4:17,18

That is what the Scriptures mean when God told him, “I have made you the father of many nations.” This happened because Abraham believed in the God who brings the dead back to life and who creates new things out of nothing. Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping—believing that he would become the father of many nations. For God had said to him, “That’s how many descendants you will have!”

Where do we put our hope today? In the things of this world and the god of this age or in the One who created the world and the God of all time? We must choose each day where to place our precious hope. The enemy will try to trick us into giving up our hope or placing it in unwarranted people, places, and things. But our God says, “I am the source of hope, the one you can trust in. Your confidence can be placed in Me, and I will never let you down.”

The Great I Am is faithful, my friends! We see that though Abraham had no human reason to hope, he had an eternal reason! His hope, confidence, expectation, or trust, was not in the flawed and fallen nature of himself but in the perfect, holy, and righteous nature of God. We, too, can and should have this same hope in our God. For He does not change, and He will not change His mind about you and me who remain in Christ.

Abraham believed in the God who brings dead things back to life and creates newness out of nothingness; do we? Do we truly believe and trust in Him? Abraham did, and it was counted to him as righteousness. This hope He gives us is not one that is fleeting or faulty, but it is forever found in Him and who He is. He is the God of all hope, the Author of life, the Defender of the widow and the orphan, the Redeemer of the lost. Let us never take for granted or forget that our God humbled Himself, came to earth to die on a cross, and rescued those who couldn’t save themselves. The grave itself could not keep hold of Him because He is too powerful even for death. That is the God we place our hope in, and that God, my friends, is worthy of all praise!

Psalm 71:14-16- As for me, I will always have hope; I will praise you more and more. My mouth will tell of your righteous deeds, of your saving acts all day long— though I know not how to relate them all. I will come and proclaim your mighty acts, Sovereign LORD; I will proclaim your righteous deeds, yours alone.

God bless! I love you all, but His love offers hope! Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
