Proverbs 1 Devotions by Stephen Taylor

Proverbs 1:23

“Repent at my rebuke! Then I will pour out my thoughts to you, I will make known to you my teachings.”

Repentance brings revelation! This is part of Wisdom’s cry to all mankind. It is an offer of revelation of truth brought about by repentance in the heart! It’s another beautiful example of our God going above and beyond. Repentance is for us, not God; it doesn’t make Him right with us but us right with Him! Yet He says, “Not only will I make you right in My eyes, but I will teach and lead you in the right ways!” What a beautiful blessing on top of the greatest blessing ever given.

Our God continually exceeds expectations. He never falls short or fails. No one wants us to live like Christ more than Christ Himself, so He will make the way known if we humbly repent. He will not teach a stubborn and hard, worldly heart the beautiful truth and way of the Kingdom, but if that same heart softens and humbles itself before Him, then He will gladly and fully teach them His ways! It’s amazing to me that He will take the time to teach us, and even greater is the fact He wants to!

He isn’t some far-off hidden God but the God who became flesh and dwelt among us. He came so close to us in order to save us. and He offers us abundant life in Him! If we want God to reveal who He is and what He is about. then we must humbly repent and be ready to receive the revelation of a lifetime!

But if we refuse to repent. there is but one thing left for us, the holy and righteous wrath of God.

Proverbs 1:24-29- “But since you refuse to listen when I call and no one pays attention when I stretch out my hand, since you disregard all my advice and do not accept my rebuke, I in turn will laugh when disaster strikes you; I will mock when calamity overtakes you— when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when disaster sweeps over you like a whirlwind, when distress and trouble overwhelm you. Then they will call to me but I will not answer; they will look for me but will not find me, since they hated knowledge and did not choose to fear the LORD.”

God bless! I love you all, but His love is calling out for your heart; will you give it to Him? Glory, honor, and praise now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!

Proverbs 1:23

Repent at my rebuke! Then I will pour out my thoughts to you, I will make known to you my teachings.

Repentance opens many doors, but refusing to repent sets many traps. Throughout the Book of Proverbs, we see many contrasts, many comparisons, and many foundational truths; this is one of those truths. When we repent, it opens our hearts and minds to the LORD – to His truth, His teaching, His thoughts, and His ways.

Repentance must be a lifeboat in a believer’s life and not a truth we avoid. The Proverb says it so plainly; if we repent at wisdom’s rebuke, then wisdom will teach us and train us in who He is. This wisdom is of God; this wisdom is God! He is the wisdom that we need and long for. He is the wisdom that is not of this world but is above it. The wisdom He is and He holds is incorruptible, unwavering, and unending. He is perfect, pure, holy, and righteous.

When we refuse to repent, we are handicapping ourselves, setting nets for our own feet and hindering our own growth. If we want the LORD to pour out His wisdom upon us, then we must come humbly yet boldly to His feet in repentance, knowing that because of Christ we can be accepted in our surrender. So let us not hold ourselves back but repent in eager expectation of an outpouring of His Spirit, His thoughts, and His ways!

Jeremiah 7:22,23- For when I brought your ancestors out of Egypt and spoke to them, I did not just give them commands about burnt offerings and sacrifices, but I gave them this command: Obey me, and I will be your God and you will be my people. Walk in obedience to all I command you, that it may go well with you.

God bless! I love you all, but His love far outweighs the depths and depravity of our sin! Praise, glory, and honor now and forever to Papa God, Jesus Christ our King, and the Holy Spirit!
