Report Card from Jesus – Children’s Sermon on Jesus’ Letter to the Seven Churches – Revelation 2-3

Report Card from Jesus – Children’s Sermon on Jesus’ Letter to the Seven Churches – Revelation 2-3

Needed: Nothing (Optional: You could make a sample report card to show the children.)

Scripture: Revelation 2-3

Children’s Sermon: Ask students, How many of you get a report card at school?

Do you like to get your report card? Why or why not?

I was always a little afraid to get my report card because I thought maybe I would get a bad grade in one subject and have to show my parents.

What sorts of things are on your report card? What do you get graded in?

In Revelation 2 and 3, Jesus sends letter to seven churches, and they’re kind of like a report card for these churches. Jesus tells them some things they’re doing well and some things they need to work on.

Now, I want you to imagine that Jesus was going to give you a report card. What kinds of things do you think He would grade you on?

Some ideas might be:

  • how well we’re reading our Bible and understanding what God says
  • if we’re spending time praying
  • if we’re being kind to others
  • if we’re saying no to temptations

Think about, what is one thing Jesus would give you a good grade in?

What is one thing Jesus would say you need to work on to get a better grade?

Closing Prayer: Jesus, You are always honest with us about what we’re doing right and what we’re doing wrong. We ask You to lead us so that we can be more like You, so that we can make You proud of us and work on the areas of our lives You want us to do better in. Amen.
