"Don't Stop" - Luke 10:4 Children's Sermon
Needed: Nothing
Scripture: Luke 10:1-4
Children's Sermon: Ask students, Do any of you have chores you're supposed to do at home?
What happens if your mom or dad tells you to do a chore and then you don't do it right away? (You might get in trouble.)
What would keep you from doing the chore right away?
I remember when my parents asked me to do something, I would be on my way to do it, but then I would see something I wanted to play with, or I would pass the TV and start watching it, or I would start talking to my brother or sister, or the phone would ring and I would answer it.
I would get distracted from what I was supposed to be doing, and then I would get in trouble because I took too long to do what I was told.
In this story, Jesus gave His followers a task. He told them to do something.
(Read Luke 10:1-4)
What did Jesus tell His followers to do? (To go tell people about Him in the towns and get them ready for Him to come visit them.)
And He told them not to stop to talk to anyone on the way. Why do you think He told them not to talk to anyone on the way? (Because He didn't want them to get distracted from the job He gave them! They weren't supposed to stop and talk to everyone they saw. They were supposed to go to the towns.)
So, when Jesus tells us to do something, we should try to not get distracted. What Jesus says, we should do right away.
Closing Prayer: Jesus, we pray that You will help us to stay focused and do what You tell us to do right away. Help us not to wait or hesitate or get distracted from doing what You say. Amen.
