"Hold Fast to the Bible" Children's Sermon - 2 Thessalonians 2:15
Use this children's sermon on the Bible to show children why we need to hold fast to the Bible's teachings!
Needed: A rope
Lesson: Have children stand up and pretend that they're climbing a mountain with you, using just their hands and feet.
Then
tell them that a big storm is coming up, with big winds and rain. Ask
the congregation to make sound effects with you while you and the kids
act out trying to hold onto the mountainside.
Ask the students, Can you think of anything that might help us hold on?
What about a rope? Would a rope be helpful?
Pull out your rope and have all of the students take hold of it.
The
Bible is kind of like a rope. In life, we face problems, and things go
wrong, and sometimes we're even tempted to do things that we know we
shouldn't do. Those problems and temptations are kind of like storms in
life. (Ask the congregation to make their wind and rain sound effects
again.)
But if we hold on to what the Bible teaches us,
just like we're holding on to this rope, then the things we learn in
the Bible will help us stand strong against those problems and
temptations.
(Read 2 Thessalonians 2:15, quoted here in the NIV.)
"So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold fast to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter."
So,
if we hold on to the teachings in the Bible, they will help us stand
strong against any problems and against any temptations we face.
Let's pray about that.
Sample
prayer: Father God, thank You for giving us the Bible. Please help us
to learn what You want to teach us and to hold onto the Bible's
teaching. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
